Featured in FACT Magazine's The Ten Best Synths for iPad, Photophore is a distinctive instrument that utilizes flocks of up to 100 sound generators to generate intricate and organic synthesizer tones.
Setting it apart from other digital synthesizers, Photophore achieves warmth and character through a novel approach. Instead of replicating analog circuits, it models animal behavior to create its distinctive sounds. The innovative sound engine of Photophore consists of oscillators that move within a virtual three-dimensional environment, guided by a specialized behavioral algorithm and physics simulation. This system maintains oscillator coherence while allowing for natural drifting and detuning, resulting in rich timbres ideal for crafting diverse sounds like massive bass tones, complex pads, and vibrant leads.
Users can interact with the oscillator flocks by adjusting their behavior - controlling their tendency to flock together, their avoidance of each other, speed, and the turbulence in their environment. By simply swiping across the screen, oscillators respond dynamically to create extreme pitch modulation and chaotic effects.
